Day 43: Bridges and Cows (Tillamook Bay Community College)

A first for me today: I ran into Tillamook Bay Community College with a cow named Tinkerbell. Additionally, Tinkerbell crossed the finish line before me but my official story is I let the cow win. Fantastic welcome at TBCC this morning, I enjoyed running in with President Paul Jarrell and several staff members. The local Senator and Representative were in attendance and we had lots of Tillamook cheese with other breakfast options. It's a great college that is growing and working hard to serve its community.

From there I had about a 20 mile run up hwy 101 to get to Astoria. I was looking forward to not being on 101 anymore as it is a busy and loud road. The shoulders are mostly wide enough for safety but the constant traffic is stressful. So when I reached the Warrenton-Astoria bridge and could see Astoria on the other side I was excited. However the mile long bridge had narrow shoulders on the Astoria side which made for a challenging crossing.

My favorite part of the day was being surprised about lunchtime by my friend and American Leadership Forum cohort member, Chris V-Krause. She had made a sign and was pulled over on the side of the road cheering me on before driving ahead and joining for lunch. This makes 3 members of ALF Class 46 that have found me on the coast--Denzil in Lincoln City, Cheryl in Tillamook, and Chris outside of Astoria.  Definitely feeling the love. Will start making my way to Portland tomorrow and look forward to the Clatsop CC event on Wednesday morning.

  1. Well, I'd like to see Tinkerbell run a full marathon! 🤣 That is so cool! I've ran with a goat, but never with a cow! Way to persevere, Tim! 😊👊
