Day 36: 1,000 Miles!

Packed full day today. Started off with an event at Linn-Benton Community College where my buddy and friend from the American Leadership Forum of Oregon, Roland Herrera came. Roland also invited the Albany Mayor, Alex Johnson. LBCC provided a nice breakfast and President Lisa Avery made remarks before we headed out to run to the Albany Historic Carousel. Paddy and I love carousels, we rode one during our wedding reception over 30 years ago and will ride them when we get the chance. Unfortunately this one wasn’t open yet.

Shawn McDonald, a Chemistry faculty member at Clackamas CC joined me for the remainder of the 14 miles to get to Chemeketa CC where we have an event in the morning. We had a great conversation along the way. The most exciting part was that during our run, I crossed the 1,000 mile mark! In a typical year I might run about 1,200 miles, so to run 1,000 in 36 days is a bit mind-boggling to me.

After a lunch break Shawn had to head out, so I made my way out of Salem toward Lincoln City where I’ll be running the next couple of days. I was on the path in West Salem when I noticed that Ben Cannon, Executive Director of the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) was about 20 yards in front of me. Ben has been tracking my run and wanted to say hello, I love these surprises along the way. Ben will also be joining me for a couple of days on the route from Astoria to Portland.

All around a great day to be out running in Oregon.
