I spent almost my entire run today on the Banks-Vernonia Trail. This is a trail like many across the country that used to be a railroad line and was converted to a bike path. It's about 22 miles long, mostly shaded and most importantly, off the road. After weeks of running on back roads and highways, many of which had narrow shoulders, it was a joy to run today and not worry about cars or hear the noise as they drive by.
It’s hard to believe but this adventure will be coming to an end next week. Tomorrow I’ll arrive at Portland Community College - Sylvania and will have an event on Saturday morning. Then I’ll run to Clackamas Community College Saturday afternoon. Sunday and Monday I’ll head to Mt. Hood Community College before running my last leg to Columbia Gorge Community College in Hood River where I’ll arrive next Wednesday. I’m definitely feeling like I’m in the home stretch, and while I’m looking forward to being home, I know I will miss many elements of this crazy undertaking. In the meantime I plan to enjoy this last week, particularly the next couple of nights where we’ll get to sleep in our own bed.
