Finally made it to SWOCC in Coos Bay today. This was the only community college out of the 17 in Oregon that I have never visited so I was really excited to run here. President Patty Scott and her team made us feel very welcome. We met up at the Prefontaine murals in downtown Coos Bay and several staff and students joined me for the 4 mile run from there to the college.
Coos Bay is the birthplace of Steve Prefontaine and he was a standout at Marshall High School before going on to the U of O where he made history. He is one of my running heroes and I really enjoyed running on a route that he ran nearly every day.
Upon reflection, I think the route from Grants Pass to Coos Bay may have been the most difficult of all so far. The heat and daily elevation gain was challenging and I was pretty tired after each day. The route from Pendleton to Bend was also quite challenging and the longest but the daily temperatures were much cooler so it comes in 2nd.
Headed to Roseburg tomorrow and Umpqua Community College.
