Started the day off with a nice breakfast sandwich in Fossil before heading out to run. The first 3 miles were uphill then I had a glorious 7-8 miles of downhill running through the forest. I saw maybe 3 cars and had the road to myself, my only moment of panic was wondering if I would come across a bear or a cougar that early in the morning. Fortunately the only wildlife i saw were Cows and a few lizards. The rest of the morning was smooth and I got into a nice running rhythm.
The second half was not as much fun, it was hotter and I had significant elevation for most of the afternoon. I walked most of it and found my left foot was in some pain in the heel and achilles area. I theorized that the alphafly’s I had been running in were not meant for walking. I switched shoes and felt much better.
I had picked a song of the day early on, then most of the afternoon I was listening to Billy Joel’s greatest hits, Volume I,II, and III. When You’re Only Human came on and Billy was singing about getting your second wind, and letting the momentum kick in, I said you’re right Billy. I ran strong for the last 3 miles and felt great.
Tomorrow is another day with lots of elevation gain as we head to Prineville. We’re on track to arrive at Central Oregon Community College at 3pm on Monday if you want to join us.
Somebody should have arranged for our CCC mascot Cougie to come out of the woods while you were running today! ๐๐
