Day 45: Clatsop Community College and a New Record

Today was a great day for several reasons. Started the day at Clatsop Community College, #13 on my list of 17 to visit. The CCC Bandits came out in force to welcome me in to their beautiful campus.  President Jarred Hogue is new this year and is doing a great job leading his college. I found out later that an anonymous donor set up a $5,000 donation match for anyone donating to Clatsop CC in the next week. So if you’ve been on the fence, please donate as your money will double.

The best part of my day was giving credit and then running out of campus with Clatsop faculty member Fernando Rojas. For those that don’t know, I got this crazy idea to run to all 17 CC’s because Fernando biked to all of them back in 2021 to raise money for Clatsop CC students. When he biked to Clackamas I started wondering if it was possible to run to all of them. Fernando has generously been part of my planning committee for the past year and since we always met on zoom it was great to see him and then run about 4 miles with him today.

The other exciting event is that Ben Cannon, ED for the Higher Ed Coordinating Commission, has been running with me for the past two days. Yesterday we ran 28.5 together and today we ran a whopping 33 miles. So Ben, who has run one marathon previously, just ran two back to back ultramarathons for a total of 61.5 miles. That is a new record for those who have come out and run with me, pretty amazing.

Great day and I’m looking forward to running on the Banks-Vernonia Trail for much of the day tomorrow as I make my way to Hillsboro and Beaverton.
